Canvas of Connection: The Rat Park Mural and Addiction Insights

Don't Quit

A captivating mural stands as a tribute to the Rat Park experiments, embodying the groundbreaking research of American psychologist Dr. Bruce Alexander. Inspired by Alexander's seminal work in the 1970s, the mural vividly captures how rats in socially enriched environments favored plain water over drug-laced alternatives—a stark departure from the addiction patterns observed in isolated cage settings. This artistic endeavor, proudly hosted by Recovery Coaching Services, Inc., beautifully portrays the transformative power of social connection on addiction, advocating for a compassionate shift in treatment paradigms that prioritize human interaction. Dr. Sederer underscores the significance of clinicians embracing patients' social contexts and relationships, echoing the mural's message of empathy and understanding as integral to effective treatment and recovery.

Harnessing Emotional Power Through Visual Language

Don't Quit

Dear Don't Quit Community,

In this edition of the "Don't Quit," we delve into the profound world of emotional design, where visuals become a language that speaks directly to the heart. Join us as we explore the transformative power of visual language in the entrepreneurial journey, tapping into emotions that fuel resilience, passion, and unwavering determination.

Creating a harmonious connection with your audience's emotions through intentional visual choices involves a thoughtful and strategic approach to design. This includes understanding the emotions you want to evoke, selecting colors that resonate with those emotions, choosing fonts that convey the right tone, curating evocative imagery, balancing layout elements, maintaining consistency across platforms, telling a compelling visual story, understanding your audience, testing and iterating based on feedback, and ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in your design. By integrating these considerations, you can craft a visually engaging experience that not only captures attention but also deeply resonates with the emotions you aim to evoke, fostering a strong and lasting connection with your audience.

Meet Our New Intern Fabiola

Theron Cook

Fabiola, a name as unique as the person it belongs to. You may be wondering, who is Fabiola? She is a kind-hearted individual with a passion for helping others. She has over three years of experience in community work and an associate degree in business management. Growing up, she had always admired her grandparents who had started their own small business from scratch, working tirelessly to provide for their family. As she got older, she began to appreciate the dedication and perseverance that small business owners put into their work, often sacrificing their own time and resources for the success of their business. It was this admiration that led her to pursue a career in business and finance; she hopes to open a business of her own someday. In her leisure time, she enjoys swimming, crafting, learning about the emotional connection to money and its impact on people's lives and adventure that lead her to new places.

How to paint a portrait. A quick time-lapse Tutorial guide. Portrait of Lonnie Walker. Enjoy!

Theron Cook

Here is a demo video "A brief beginners guide to drawing and painting a portrait". In this video I am teaching you how to start the drawing of an image, using a reference image and how to paint it. creating layers over the under painting. I am encouraging the use of many colors such as blues and red which some people may not associate with being "skin tones" that you would use in a portrait painting. The video is intended for you to paint along with me. Of course you can pause the video and really take your time with the artwork. This is a Timelaspe video & the process is defenitely speed up. I have taken my time to create this tutorial or "how to" video so I really hope that it will prove helpful to some of you amateur artists out there. This video is intended for absolute beginners. Please note, this portrait is NOT intended to be a perfect painting. I am simply trying to encourage people who may be wanting to refresh their skills or take up painting the figure/portrait from the very start.

Pen Street: City Of Poems x Theron Cook Art

Theron Cook

Collaboration project with Pen Street: City Of Poems This is an unfinished abstract surreal styled painting that consists of selected images ideas & concepts that were inspired by the poem titled:

”Working For The Opposition” by Nelson De La Cruz

One of the main lines from the poem that sparked my creativity is: “The frames of the wind flicker between scenes positioning you to play your part. Unapologetically

From reading this line I began the visual storytelling. Creating a vibe & or mood with the idea of Morning Noon & night 24 7 concept I choose the images and concepts that work as metaphors for the word play & perspective of the writer, capturing the meaning and message of the poem. By creating a abstract surreal #24 #7 as the main attraction to the painting hoping to achieve a sense of the daily cycle, daily grind, daily battles & daily choices of a person facing conflict of interest in their own mind. One example of the images that I choose to make up the main image as a metaphor is the roll of (money) wrapped in a rubber band. Representing the fruits of labor. The resistance becomes toxic when the time energy & work that you sacrifice for money isn’t aligned with your peace & growth. Other images I incorporated: water, tree, wheel, rose, bubble, clouds, lotus, human figure, & a few other images within. You can use your imagination to put together your own interpretation or version of the painting by identifying images that you see within the painting. Hope you Enjoy! Thank you! Please feel free to like share or comment.

Stay safe.
