How to paint a portrait. A quick time-lapse Tutorial guide. Portrait of Lonnie Walker. Enjoy!

Theron Cook

Here is a demo video "A brief beginners guide to drawing and painting a portrait". In this video I am teaching you how to start the drawing of an image, using a reference image and how to paint it. creating layers over the under painting. I am encouraging the use of many colors such as blues and red which some people may not associate with being "skin tones" that you would use in a portrait painting. The video is intended for you to paint along with me. Of course you can pause the video and really take your time with the artwork. This is a Timelaspe video & the process is defenitely speed up. I have taken my time to create this tutorial or "how to" video so I really hope that it will prove helpful to some of you amateur artists out there. This video is intended for absolute beginners. Please note, this portrait is NOT intended to be a perfect painting. I am simply trying to encourage people who may be wanting to refresh their skills or take up painting the figure/portrait from the very start.

Pen Street: City Of Poems x Theron Cook Art

Theron Cook

Collaboration project with Pen Street: City Of Poems This is an unfinished abstract surreal styled painting that consists of selected images ideas & concepts that were inspired by the poem titled:

”Working For The Opposition” by Nelson De La Cruz

One of the main lines from the poem that sparked my creativity is: “The frames of the wind flicker between scenes positioning you to play your part. Unapologetically

From reading this line I began the visual storytelling. Creating a vibe & or mood with the idea of Morning Noon & night 24 7 concept I choose the images and concepts that work as metaphors for the word play & perspective of the writer, capturing the meaning and message of the poem. By creating a abstract surreal #24 #7 as the main attraction to the painting hoping to achieve a sense of the daily cycle, daily grind, daily battles & daily choices of a person facing conflict of interest in their own mind. One example of the images that I choose to make up the main image as a metaphor is the roll of (money) wrapped in a rubber band. Representing the fruits of labor. The resistance becomes toxic when the time energy & work that you sacrifice for money isn’t aligned with your peace & growth. Other images I incorporated: water, tree, wheel, rose, bubble, clouds, lotus, human figure, & a few other images within. You can use your imagination to put together your own interpretation or version of the painting by identifying images that you see within the painting. Hope you Enjoy! Thank you! Please feel free to like share or comment.

Stay safe.

Moving from Reading, PA, to New York City was a metamorphosis, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. I was a very hungry caterpillar, hatching from an egg and stuffing myself with leaves, going through a series of moltings to shed my skin.

One day, I (the caterpillar) stopped eating, hung myself upside down from a leaf and spun myself a silky cocoon. Inside the cocoon (Reading), I started the digestive process by digesting myself (meditation). I used all the protein-rich soup around me to fuel the rapid cell division required to form my necessary adult-artist body parts: the wings, antennae, legs, eyes, genitals, etc. This is the process I needed to become a mature-artist butterfly!

What you are about to witness is Chaos Theory…the Butterfly Effect that will illustrate small initial differences leading to unforeseen results within nine months.

Stay tuned for the Butterfly Effect!

Holy Art Show!

Theron Cook

Holy Art Show!
4 day art exhibiton! Opening night Thursday May 12, 2016. Frankie Velez and Savior Elmundo will be back at Cafe de la Esquina in Williamsburg curating another awesome event.

In essence, the show will highlight Latino Catholicism emerged in street art and pop expression ; the bold and vibrant colors of Latino Catholicism religion with a respectful, but artistic twist, combining elements of art culture with religious symbolism. Imagine a priest offering the wafer, which represents the body of Christ, but instead of the wafer, we see a spray can in his hand.

The portrayal of religion is art as opposed to a true representation of Catholic symbolism. It's the passion and devotion of art delivered through the passion and devotion of religion.

L.E.O. "Love EveryOne" ... Connecting through tHEARTS

L.E.O. is an acronym for  "Love EveryOne" This is a nonprofit organization working to educate kids & the community, on the influence of art in our everyday lives. Through L.E.O. , We have the ability not only to beautify and enhance people’s lives and environments, but also to bring them together, to inspire dialogue, to produce work that acts as a bridge between individuals, that paves the way for us to communicate with one another, to open up and share our experiences.
We paint murals, public art projects, fine art canvases, & large commercial signage anywhere.

The first project of L.E.O. started this past weekend Sat. March 19th at 13th & Green Elementary School in Reading PA. Due to the size of the mural we were limited to the number of students and community kids to come help with this project but we are expecting everything to grow as we move forward. Look below for a gallery of pictures showcasing our first day creating The L.E.O. Mural project at 13th & Green Elementary School.

Big shout out to our aspiring photographer Kstar-Images who took all the pictures & videos!
